Full Job Description

Trustees meet monthly, alternating between in-person and virtual meetings. The role is primarily strategic, with occasional engagement with schools or community groups, so some flexibility and limited weekday availability may be helpful. Monthly trustee meetings (up to 2 hours). Trustees are expected to review papers and respond to key communications during the week. Time commitment is typically light but may vary slightly depending on priorities. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in education, community engagement, or public outreach, ideally where you have led or shaped programmes, partnerships, or initiatives. This role is best suited to senior professionals who are comfortable operating at a strategic level and who understand the duties and legal responsibilities of a charity trustee, including acting in the charity's best interests, ensuring appropriate oversight of resources, complying with Charity Commission requirements, and participating in collective decision-making. This is a strategic Board role rather than an operational delivery role, working alongside volunteers and staff who lead day-to-day activity., This role is key to helping the branch extend its reach into the community. By strengthening how we engage with schools and local groups, you will help build awareness, prevent animal welfare issues, and support long-term behavioural change in how animals are treated and cared for. Time commitment

  • Approximately 1-3 hours per week
  • Monthly trustee meetings (virtual and in person)
  • Some flexibility to engage with community partners during the week

    Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential; however, candidates should be able to contribute with confidence at Board level.

  • A passion for animal welfare is essential., We are looking for a trustee who can contribute at a strategic level and bring relevant experience in education, community engagement, or outreach. This role is best suited to a senior professional who is comfortable operating at Board level and understands the duties and legal responsibilities of a charity trustee, including collective decision-making, accountability, and acting in the charity's best interests. You should have experience of leading or shaping programmes, partnerships, or initiatives, rather than solely delivering activity. We are particularly interested in individuals who can help us build effective and sustainable relationships with schools, community groups, and local organisations. As a trustee, you will be expected to provide oversight, direction and constructive challenge, rather than take on day-to-day operational delivery. The role requires the ability to think strategically, ask the right questions, and support the branch in making informed and proportionate decisions. We are looking for someone who can bring:

  • The ability to influence and build partnerships with a range of audiences
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement
  • Confidence contributing to Board discussions and decision-making
  • An understanding of safeguarding considerations in education or community settings
  • Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential; however, candidates should be willing and able to take on the legal responsibilities of trusteeship and contribute actively to the governance of the branch. A genuine interest in animal welfare and community impact is important.
