Protecting children is at the heart of everything we do.

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) makes the internet a safer place for children and adults across the world. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation funded by the internet industry, grants from charitable trusts and foundations, and donations from the public. Since 1996, we've helped to remove millions of child sexual abuse images and videos from the internet. Our position is unique. We have over 200 Members which include some of the largest internet companies in the world - Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google and Microsoft - as well as the largest ISPs and mobile operators in the UK including BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin. Whilst independent of government and law enforcement we work closely with both in the UK, EU and throughout the world and our relationships sit at the highest levels.

Fundamentally we exist to create an internet free from child sexual abuse that is a safe place for children and adults to use around the world.

Our mission to eliminate online child sexual abuse images and videos is an ambitious one, and we do not underestimate the enormity of our task. Our ability to be both effective and credible in our work is dependent on the strength, transparency and rigour of our own structures and procedures. As a registered charity we are governed by a Board of Trustees which is accountable for ensuring IWF's effectiveness and promoting good governance practices and good decision making in line with the charity's mission and values.

We are now seeking to appoint one Co-opted Trustee and one full Trustee to our Board who will add further strength, rigour and independence to the governance of IWF. As a Trustee, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our mission and ensuring our continued success, and we are seeking professionally and personally diverse individuals who are leaders in their own right to bring their varied and relevant experiences to our Board. We are particularly seeking those able to demonstrate leadership experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Business to business development and growth, gained in a service environment.
  • Technology background - ideally with experience of having led a Trust and Safety function or acted as a consultant within a technology enabled environment.
  • An International operating environment, particularly within a technology enabled organisation.

Above all else we are seeking those able to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to child protection and a willingness to be an ambassador and public advocate for IWF and our mission.

Closing date for applications: 17.00 Wednesday 2 July 2025

We value difference and diversity, not only because we believe it is the right thing to do, but because it will help us to be more innovative and make better decisions. We are particularly keen to attract individuals for whom this would be a first time Trustee/board appointment and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds - people of all ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, nationalities, religions and beliefs. We fully support candidates with a disability or long-term condition who require adjustments during the recruitment process and throughout any subsequent appointment.

Reasonable Adjustment:

If you have a disability we will try our best to make reasonable adjustments to remove any barriers to this post in the application / interview process due to a disability.
