Full Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic individual to be a Trust Resident Doctor in Gastroenterology - Fixed term post from 01/05/2026 - 30/04/2027., Your role will involve providing comprehensive care for patients within the gastroenterology service, maintaining ongoing clinical responsibility and completing all associated administrative duties, including:
Managing gastroenterology inpatients, including ward rounds, reviewing new admissions, and responding to inpatient referrals across multiple wards.
Overseeing the day-to-day running of the gastroenterology ward in collaboration with Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Conducting outpatient clinics (with consultant supervision)
Exercising independent clinical decision-making in the management of general medical and gastroenterological conditions.
Delivering evidence-based care and respond effectively to emergencies and unforeseen clinical situations.
Liaising with Consultants and other specialties to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient care.
Arranging and undertaking follow-up of discharged patients, including virtual clinics and review of investigation results.
Supervising and teaching other resident doctors, medical students, and clinical observers, including training in practical procedures such as ascitic taps/drains and lumbar punctures.
Participating in Clinical Governance meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
