Trust Doctor(Non Training) Level 1 in Paediatrics

This is a Trust Doctor (non-training) Level {1 or 2} post equivalent to a Tier 1 SHO.

The normal working day consists of covering the Paediatrics ward (C2) , Neonatal unit

(NNU) or the Paediatrics assessment unit (PAU) as per rota allocation as a level 2 doctor (Registrar level). You will also be doing out-of-hours including long days and night shifts as per rota schedules. During out of hours, you will be carrying the Tier 2 crash bleeps and attend any emergencies.

Main duties of the job

This is a busy Paediatric unit serving about 65,000 children in the borough. There are 3600

medical admissions a year. There are 2500 New Patient referrals from GPs and 6900 follow up

Out Patient appointments a year. There are special interest clinics in Epilepsy, Headache,

Neurodevelopment, Asthma, Diabetes, Gastroenterology and emotional and behaviour disorders.

There are also joint clinics with Neurologist and Cardiologist visiting from Birmingham Children's

Hospital. There is also a Genetics clinic supported by Geneticist from Q. E. Hospital, Birmingham.

The trust has named Surgeons and Anaesthetists with special interest in paediataric surgery

providing care in different surgical specialties.

The Paediatric ward is situated on the second floor just opposite to the neonatal unit. It has 41

beds for medical and surgical admissions. It has 9 cubicles and rest is divided into 4 bedded bays.

This included 2 HDU beds. There is an observation area for patients admitted from A&E

department. A separate adolescent admission area is also provided. There is a resuscitation room

with ventilator and CPAP facility for stabilisation, an admission room and play area staffed by the

play therapists. At present we operate a consultant of the week rota.
