Trust Doctor in Gastroenterology

The role is a Trust Doctor in Gastroenterology. The post involves duties on a full shift basis of 40 hours., The appointee will be responsible for communication and liaison with other medical and service departments within the hospital and with general practitioners and other agencies, such as district nursing and Social Services. The appointee will be expected to cover for absence of colleagues (including on call cover) at short notice, e.g. sickness. Cover outside the Rota requiring extra hours of work will be paid as additional work at nationally agreed rates and will be coordinated to be compliant with the relevant legislation. It is expected that the post holder will play an active part in the training of junior medical staff. He/she will also be expected to supervise, educate and assist medical students. The post holder should take an active part in clinical audit, journal club and departmental teaching sessions. Regular appraisals will occur and the post holder will be expected to take part in CPD.

• Competent in relevant clinical procedures, particularly ascitic tap and paracentesis
• Able to prioritise clinical need
• Able to work independently, but aware of limitations and knows when to ask for relevant help
• Computer literate
• Interest of participation in Audit, QIP, Mortality meetings, GMC Registration
• MBBS or equivalent, Additional relevant clinical experience, preferably including working at middle grade level in Gastroenterology
• MRCO or equivalent
