Full Job Description
Newham University Hospital is a district general hospital with a major undergraduate teaching role, serving one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the UK.
The Care of the Elderly Department has an age related policy for medical admissions, with ongoing care of medical emergencies in patients aged 75 years and above. This is in association with General Medical (all ages) on call commitment in the form of an integrated on-call rota and the Geriatrician consultants also provide the majority input into the Medical Admissions Team. The department also provides Stroke, Frailty and a variety of community services.
The successful applicant will contribute to the acute GIM service at Newham University Hospital (NUH), with full commitment to the integrated general medical on call rota on a 1:6 frequency with prospective cover (ST3+ Registrar level). They will have continued management of older medical inpatients on an acute geriatric ward. They will contribute to outpatient services in Care of the Elderly. There is also the opportunity to participate in specialist clinics, such as Diagnostic Memory Clinic and TIA clinic, and to join Nursing Home visits. They will also contribute to the Acute Frailty service and the frailty virtual ward.
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our dynamic team providing acute GIM and Geriatric Medicine services to the people of Newham. This would suit either a full time or part time candidate and will be available from December 2024.
