Full Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Transport Manager / occasional HGV Driver to join the Central Alliance team, reporting through to the Senior Leadership Team. We are offering the role on a full-time, permanent basis, based out of our Normanton Offices and Yard.

The successful candidate will act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Company's Standard International Operators Licence. You will be accountable for the effective and continuous management of transport operations of Central Alliance's Ground Investigation plant (drill rigs and support equipment) to work sites throughout the UK, and for also delivering ad hoc haulage services to external clients. The role holder is to ensure safety and compliance across the fleet, meeting all legal requirements in relation to Operator licensing, EU, domestic and UK regulations.

Whilst the primary role is that of Transport Manager, please note that the role will also entail some HGV driving and possible nights away throughout the UK.

Accountabilities

Be of good repute, and professionally competent in effectively and continuously managing the Company's Operator Licence undertakings and upholding FORS accreditation annually. Represent the Company where engagement with DVSA, Traffic Commissioner etc. is required.

Ensure all Operator Licensing regulations and Operator License undertakings are adhered to, including but not limited to-driver licensing and CPC, drivers' hours & working time regulations, record keeping, vehicle maintenance, Operator License management, speeding and suitable load security.

Plan and co-ordinate all internal mobilisations and demobilisations, to ensure operational efficiencies, liaising with operational teams, attending weekly planning meetings, and reviewing the planner. Proactively dealing with any issues/delays and providing updates to relevant project managers.

Schedule all HGV movements in line with drivers' hours requirements whilst considering efficiencies and cost implications.

Monitor, record and submit digital tachograph data in line with industry norms.

Oversee driver compliance with working time regulations and tachograph rules.

Ensure drivers are adequately trained and competent to operate all relevant vehicles and equipment.

Stay informed of industry updates, and implement changes where required.

Liaise with RSK Group Fleet Compliance Manager and Group Fleet Manager as required, to ensure compliance with Group standards and to share best practice.

Deliver the current year's annual Haulage budget, including ensuring work is priced so it can be done both legally and profitably. Provide early warning to Managing Directors of potential material variance to budgets.

With support, build subsequent years annual Haulage budget, including staff levels, costs, materials, CAPEX and support services. Includes exploring and presenting options on diversification of the fleet, with a view of supporting a greater market.

Track and analyse data, presenting key metrics at monthly and quarterly business meetings i.e. fleet and driver utilisation, fuel consumption. Act on poor driver behaviour to improve driver safety & fleet efficiencies. Respectfully challenge any underutilisation and inefficiencies with work tasks being undertaken by team members, with a view of increasing revenue / saving on project costs/maintenance etc. and upskilling on how to work more effectively.

Create a culture and demonstrate firsthand that safety is the first value - we aim for zero harm, and we encourage staff to stop work and report if unsafe.

Contribute information and sound, timely and respectful opinions on all SHEQ related items, providing direction and leadership across the Haulage department.

Maintain common process for assessing risk across all SHEQ documents including Site Specific Risk Assessments / H&S Plans, RAMS and POWRA's for the Haulage department.

Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions.

Conduct regular audits of HGV fleet/transport operations and drivers.

Responsible for the procurement and disposal of Company vehicles.

Drive, promote and implement a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in all elements of the Haulage department. Challenge our systems, process, and technology to strive towards solutions that will make undertaking key business tasks safer, which in turn will lead to increased sales, reduced costs, increased productivity.

Build and maintain a structured and capable team. Conduct performance reviews, training and disciplinary procedures where necessary.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, to foster repeat business, which includes visiting and liaising with key client teams.

Transport Manager CPC qualification

HGV Driving Licence with experience driving HGVs

Experience in tachograph software

Extensive knowledge of road haulage, Operator licencing and UK road legislation

Experienced in transport routing and maintenance scheduling.

Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance.

Experience managing fleets and drivers.

Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

Strong leadership and communication abilities.

Commercially minded with an ability to develop and evolve systems and processes within a growing business.

Be of good repute and able to lead and influence teams to be high performing and to exhibit a safe, positive work culture.

Experienced in appropriately structuring and writing health and safety procedures to deliver on business SHEQ requirements (Risk Assessments, Method Statements etc.)

Ability to work in high-pressure environments and manage urgent / complex tasks simultaneously, providing and communicating solutions in a clear and timely manner.

Ability to work professionally at all times, establishing strong relationships with team members, internal stakeholders and external clients.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literate with working knowledge of at least Microsoft packages.

Willing to work flexible hours when required, and stay away over night from time to time throughout the UK
