Full Job Description
Would you like to improve the transport system within Leicester?
The Major Transport Projects Team develop and deliver highways and transport schemes to improve Leicester's roads and streets. Our portfolio covers a wide range of schemes such as improving the infrastructure, bus lanes and cameras.
Join us as a Transport Development Officer in our team of specialist officers to ensure traffic flow around the city is more efficient and safer for all users.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. You'll have the flexibility to work from our main base at City Hall or from home.
Appointment to a level will depend on the outcome of the selection process and experience of the successful candidate
What you'll be doing
You'll help to devise, design, plan and deliver improvements to roads, crossings, and junctions, including road signing and road markings. This will involve carrying out assessments of sites, analysing key data such as accident statistics, undertaking research on factors such as traffic flow, pedestrian crossings, dimensions of footways and visibility. Using specialist software, you'll design the proposal, considering costings, quantity of materials and funding options. Once approved, you'll work with engineers to produce a detailed civil engineering design and in some cases procure contractors to complete the works. You'll be responsible for the management of schemes including carrying out public consultations and bearing in mind issues such as double yellow lines, bus lanes and the legality around making such improvements.
What you'll need:
With strong project management skills, you'll be able to write reports, work to tight deadlines and work as part of a team to meet the project objectives. You'll have experience in using IT applications, to produce letters, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations as well as understand highway design packages such as AutoCAD. Using excellent communication, numerical and organisation skills, you'll be able to work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver projects within set deadlines and to budget. Most importantly you'll share our commitment to ensuring the Council's transport policies are implemented and sustainable modes of transport are promoted.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, .
