The S&E team is distributed geographically to provide highly visible and frontline support to all Cancer Research UK (CRUK) funded researchers across the UK. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of plans for translation of CRUK funded research within the London region.
As Senior Translation Executive you will lead a motivated and skilled team of Translation Managers and Executives with responsibility for supporting and enabling translation of academic cancer research from academic institutions across the London region. The role will also include visiting and working with oncology researchers based in London research institutions to proactively identify projects and technologies with patient benefit potential, including setting the intellectual property strategy and driving project development by working with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to lead the design and delivery of strategic initiatives aimed at increasing translation in your region, and work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver strategic initiatives across the UK.
What will you be doing?
Lead a 3-person team of Translation Managers and Executives with responsibility for supporting and enabling translation of academic cancer research from academic institutions across the London region (primarily University College London, King's College London and Imperial College London).
Develop a deep understanding of the cancer research landscape within the designated region/institution.
Build and maintain strong, integrated relationships with senior oncology researchers and host technology transfer offices in the London region.
In addition to line management responsibility, directly manage Cancer Research Horizons' relationship with Queen Mary University of London.
Act as a highly visible primary point of contact for oncology researchers with Cancer Research Horizons.
Through interactions with researchers, proactively seek and evaluate invention disclosures for technologies with the potential to impact the lives of cancer patients, performing appropriate due diligence and scientific/commercial evaluation.
Propose new technology development opportunities to internal governance boards to seek approval for their development and onward commercialisation.
With colleagues and researchers, create and implement project plans to develop technologies into investable or licensable propositions, ensuring projects are fully funded and supported with clear milestones and decision points.
Protect and manage project associated intellectual property.
With Cancer Research UK Business Development colleagues, develop marketing materials for technologies, as appropriate.
Routine contract negotiation and management in liaison with BD&T and Legal colleagues.

PhD (or equivalent) in a scientific or healthcare discipline, ideally oncology/technology-related.
An expert in translating discovery research and pre-clinical science with extensive experience in sectors such as medical technologies, diagnostics, healthcare technologies and pharmaceuticals. This experience may have been gained in industry, healthcare, academia or in non-profit organisations.
In depth experience of the patent filing and prosecution process in a range of technology areas.
In depth experience of negotiating research-related contracts including MTAs, research collaboration agreements etc.
Ability to drive an entrepreneurial spirit and think creatively.
Experience of mentoring and supporting others, gained through either matrix or direct line management is desirable but not essential.
Working knowledge of different commercialisation routes for academic research (e.g. licensing, spin-out creation).
Our organisation values are designed to guide all that we do.
Bold: Act with ambition, courage and determination
Credible: Act with rigour and professionalism

We're looking for people who can believe in and embody these organisation values and can use them to drive forward progress against our mission to beat cancer.
If you're interested in applying and excited about working with us but are unsure if you have the right skills and experience, we'd still love to hear from you.
What will I gain?
