An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Respiratory Physiology department at St. Bartholomew's Hospital on a Full time basis. We are seeking to recruit a Trainee Respiratory Physiologist to join our expanding team.This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Respiratory Physiologist to become part of an innovative service at Barts Health NHS Trust. The post holder will be based at St Bartholomew's hospital, but may be required to do some work at the satellite laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Mile End Hospital. We have a fully functioning, modern lung function laboratory providing all the usual tests including spirometry, transfer factor, lung volumes (body box), ear-lobe capillary blood gases and cardio-pulmonary exercise tests. For our specialist asthma and allergy service, we perform histamine challenges and skin prick testing lung clearance index (LCI) testing and Impulse Oscilometry (IOS). For our tertiary Sleep and Ventilation patients, we perform inpatient and outpatient sleep studies including multi-channel polygraphy and overnight oximetry. We also have the ability to do Hypoxic Challenge tests and shunt testing. We hope to develop the Sleep service to provide nocturnal capnography and full polysomnography in the future., The post holder would have a science degree (Bsc) or equivalent in a relevant field. Training and clinical experience within the NHS is also desirable. Completion of, or working towards ARTP qualifications or an enthusiasm to undertake these are desirable. However, it is not expected that applicants be competent in the testing outlined above. This is a training post and required skills and training will be built into the post holder's development. • BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent BSc in Exercise Sciences / Physiology.
• ARTP Part 1 and 2 or equivalent, Good clinical practice certificate.
• Attendance at ARTP or other recognised CPET interpretation course
• Spirometry certificate
• ECG interpretation certificate, Experience working with patients in a clinical environment
• Experience working in some form of practical scientific environment, Evidence of experience conducting lung function tests
• Experience in sleep study set ups
• Evidence of involvement development / quality improvement projects, Ability to work in and contribute to a team environment
• Effective verbal and written communication
• Ability to cope with a heavy workloads when required
• Ability to organise and prioritise workload and demonstrate initiative
• Ability to work well under pressure when required
• Ability to use Microsoft (Word & Excel) applications, Knowledge of the data protection act and an understanding of patient confidentiality
