Full Job Description
The fracture clinic forms part of the outpatient's department and deals with both acute fractures and orthopaedic conditions. Each consultant and their team have a specific morning or afternoon for their fracture clinic. There are daily clinics from Monday to Friday, for trauma patients who have been directly referred from the emergency department and in patient. We have a Matron and department Manager in post who are passionate and committed to the staff and improving patient experience. The department is part of a multi-disciplinary team working under the Trauma and Orthopedic directorate. It is responsible for most of the casting services within the Trust. The post is for a Band 4 Assistant/Trainee Technician. After working within the Plaster Room for a minimum period of 18 months, there will be a view to attending a 5-week Musculo-skeletal Casting and Splinting course at The Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, Stanmore. Following successful completion of this course, examination and written assignment, the candidate will work as a Qualified Orthopedic Technician at Band 5 level. Trainee Technicians assess, plan, implement and evaluate care episodes under the direct supervision of the Senior Practitioner. To contribute towards the effective running of the Plaster Room. To be responsible for assessing individual patient care needs in relation to and developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care for patients in accordance with agreed policies and professional guidelines. To support the plastering service for the orthopedic wards, clinics, theatres, fracture clinics and Emergency Department. To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. Participate in the treatment of patients under the direction and supervision of the Senior Orthopaedic Practitioner, raising any issues of concern to the member staff in charge of the shift.
- Keep the working environment clean and tidy.
- Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation in EPIC under the supervision of a qualified Casting Practitioner, raising issues of concern where appropriate.
- Communicate effectively and liaise with all healthcare staff as appropriate.
- To encourage and maintain good relationships with Medical Staff and other members of the M.D.T, Primary care & Social Services teams to provide a high standard care.
- Pro-actively respond to potential complaints, to prevent formal complaints from occurring. Escalate too senior accordingly.
- To assist medical and nursing staff with clinical procedures. Non-Clinical Duties
- Know where and how to access all policies and procedures and adhere to them
- Participate in maintaining appropriate levels of stock under the guidance of the Senior Orthopaedic Casting Practitioner to ensure the smooth running of the department.
- Undertake 'on the job' training and complete departmental competencies.
- To undertake a program of training to become a qualified Orthopaedic Technician
