Full Job Description
The post holder will be based in the Outpatient Department on the Royal site. They will be expected to rotate in the plaster rooms in the Royal, Broadgreen and Aintree Hospitals so to achieve the experience and qualification of a registered BOA plaster technician. They will also be required to work as an Assistant Practitioner / HCA in the clinics, when not working in the plaster rooms so to maintain their clinical skills and experience and support the service requirements and staffing establishments of the Department. The post holder will have the responsibility for the delivery of skilled care to patients with regard to the application and removal of casts and wound care knowledge. They will be required to play an integral role in the delivery of safe and high quality care and will be expected to report any safeguarding related issues, referring patients for Allied Health Professional assessment and treatment or to other agencies as required. The post holder will contribute to the planning of care for their patients and work in support of qualified nurses, doctors and allied health professionals within an acute in patient setting, so to provide a seamless service to our patients.,
- To deliver clinical and therapeutic care, within the clinical setting within set protocols and within scope of HCA / Assistant Practitioner / and Plaster Technician remit.
- To provide skilled care in the application, modification and removal of a wide range of casts, to the Emergency Department, inpatients and outpatients.
- To give an awareness to junior staff and junior Doctors re plastering skills.
- To have a wound care awareness.
- To have a duty to report any safeguarding related issues.
- To raise any concerns to the line manager., The post holder will be based in the Outpatient Department on the Royal site. They will be expected to rotate in the plaster rooms on all 3 sites, the Royal, Broadgreen and Aintree Hospitals so to achieve the experience and qualification of a registered BOA plaster technician. They will also be required to work as an Assistant Practitioner / HCA in the clinics, when not working in the plaster rooms so to maintain their clinical skills and experience and support the service requirements and staffing establishments of the Department. The post holder will have the responsibility for the delivery of skilled care to patients with regard to the application and removal of casts as well as wound care. They will also be required to play an integral role in the delivery of safe and high quality care and will be expected to observe the patient and react appropriately to any changes or any safeguarding related issues, referring patients for Allied Health Professional assessment and treatment or to other agencies as required. The post holder will contribute to the planning of care for their patients and work in support of qualified nurses, doctors and allied health professionals within an acute in patient setting, with responsibility for actively participating as part of the Multi Disciplinary Team within the department, to provide a seamless service to patients. Upon achievement of the BOA casting course - the post holder will then be working as a band 5 registered professional and supervision and teaching of junior staff or junior Doctors will also be part of the role. Main duties:

Foundation degree in assisting professional practice/equivalent - A casting Qualification (BOA), Previous acute care experience
- Demonstrable experience in techniques and application of general casts and braces
- Ability to provide excellent patient care, Ability to analyze patient progress in response to care given
- Understands the role of audit in assuring standards of care and can undertake audits in practice, Excellent communication skills
- Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the Healthcare setting
- Basic Computer Skills: I/E can use PAS systems, email and can access policies on the Trust intranet, A good team player supportive of colleagues and patients
