Full Job Description

Band 6 Trainee Practitioner - Endoscopy (Band 6 during Training phase - progressing to Band 8A) An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated GI nurse to undergo training as a Nurse Endoscopist working within the Endoscopy Department at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Endoscopy Department is a JAG accredited unit which also incorporates the East Midlands Endoscopy Training Centre. The Training Centre is highly respected in the delivery of JAG accredited courses, both nationally and locally. The post requires a competent and skilled GI nurse to perform Upper & Lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Procedure on regular designated endoscopy training lists. The post holder will receive internal and external training and assessment in accordance with JAG and Trust guidelines. The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Post registration to include experience of endoscopy procedures
  • Qualified to degree level or evidence of higher education/willingness to undertake
  • Current NMC Registration
  • If you have the skills and the qualifications to fulfil this post, you will be well supported in your professional development working closely with the senior Nurse Endoscopists and other clinical specialists within the department. You will join a high functioning team of Nurse Endoscopists who are committed to mentoring and coaching. During the training contract you will undertake the following:
  • 2 training lists per week
  • 2 sessions of directed study per week
  • V300 Non-Medical Prescribing Course
  • Advanced Physical Assessment and Consultation Skills Course
  • Endoscopy Mandatory Courses for Upper and Lower GI
  • Advanced Communication Skills Training.
  • Post training you will progress to becoming an Independent Endoscopic Practitioner responsible for senior decision making, patient pathways and managing your own caseload.
