Full Job Description

The post holder will have successfully completed the 2-year Trainee Nursing Associate training programme, which includes the attainment of a level 5 Foundation Degree equivalent qualification and NMC registration. The role of the Nursing Associate is to work within the neonatal unit supported by the Registered Nurse and other members of the multi professional team, providing and monitoring care and contributing to the ongoing assessment, as agreed with the supervising clinician(s) and in line with the service pathways., Training will be giving to ensure post holder Is competent to:

  • Admit infants to Liverpool Neonatal Partnership adhering to unit guidelines.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care to the neonate with the family and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team with supervision / guidance if required.
  • Offer support and guidance to less experienced colleagues in the clinical area
  • Prioritise and manage a defined workload efficiently.
  • Safely calculates, prepares, and administers oral medications according to the service guidelines.
  • Second checker and management of clear IV fluids ie 10% dextrose according to the service guidelines
  • Safely use all relevant specialized neonatal equipment in the clinical area to care for neonates requiring community care, TC, LD and HD care
  • Provide education and health promotion to the parents and families.
  • Demonstrates an ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation
  • Facilitate the discharge and transfer of infants in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with the parents.
  • Acts as an advocate for babies and their families by escalating concerns to the appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) Deliver programmes of care that are based on current medical and surgical research-based practice.
