Trainee EMHP

Have you got experience supporting children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing? Do you have an understanding of MHSTs and are committed to training and delivering Low Intensity CBT? Wiltshire MHST are expanding our provision across the South Wiltshire region and are therefore recruiting for the role of Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join our new teams starting in January 2027. These teams will be working across education establishments in the South Wiltshire area, including Salisbury, Amesbury and surrounding areas with exact schools to be confirmed. These roles will require travel across the South Wiltshire area for the Wiltshire MHST, working across multiple schools in the area. Alongside this, you will also attend the University course, delivered in Bristol. As a Trainee EMHP, whilst you will be allocated to the South Wiltshire area within Wiltshire, travel across the whole of Wiltshire may be required to fulfil the requirements of the role. There will be a two stage interview process for this role:First stage: Video assessment (to be recorded in your own time)Second stage: Face to Face interviews, In this role, you will train to deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems. This will be through 1:1 interventions, parent led interventions, groups, workshops, and assemblies. You will work in collaboration with other EMHP's / CWP's to deliver groups, workshops assemblies and staff training. You will work closely with the school/college mental health leads to develop a Whole School and College Approach to mental health and wellbeing within your allocated schools.

Your training year will be focused on attending University and developing your intervention skills in the MHST, working in schools when you are not at University. You will need to meet the entry requirements for the University course, detailed at https://www.exeter.ac.uk/subjects/psychology/mental-health-practice-in-education-settings/ The University course is delivered by the University of Exeter, with teaching for the course delivered online or via a hybrid model of online and face to face classes in Bristol. You therefore must be able to travel to Bristol when required by the University.In previous years, Face to Face teaching has been 1-3 times a week during the six months of University teaching. There is also an expectation that private study will be conducted during study days and outside of working hours. Through the course, you will be supported to build your skills to deliver 1:1 and group interventions to children, young people and caregivers within education establishments, under expert supervision. You will also learn about and support with the Whole School and college Approach to mental health and wellbeing. You will be required to successfully complete the Mental Health Practice in Education Settings training with the University of Exeter as either a post graduate or undergraduate. On successful completion of the EMHP training course, you will be able to apply for a permanent band 5 position in the team.,

• Knowledge of CYP development and the role of family in supporting children and young peoples emotional wellbeing gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing or mental health
• Knowledge of the educational system in England
• understanding of MHSTs role in supporting Children and young people, Demonstrate an understanding of common mental health problems experienced by children and young people.
• Understanding why it is essential to use evidence based interventions where possible., Good solid basic literacy and numeracy qualifications at a minimum of level 2
• Education to Honours degree level to 2:2 or above / proven successful study at Level 5 or successful part completion of an Honours degree - Level 6, Ability to study as a self-motivated learner who can formulate their own progress towards learning objectives and negotiate pathways to achievement with supervisory teams
• Ability to learn in a variety of settings and using a variety of learning methods, Experience of working with Children and young people with mental health difficulties
• Experience of working towards agreed targets and demonstrating outcomes, Able to travel to meet the requirements of the post
