Are you passionate about improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people? Do you have experience working with children, young people, families, schools or community services and want to develop a career in children's mental health? We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our expanding Barking & Dagenham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) as Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs). In line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the national ambition to improve access to mental health support for children and young people, this is an exciting opportunity to undertake a fully funded training programme whilst gaining practical experience within an established and supportive multidisciplinary team. As a Trainee EMHP, you will work across educational settings and healthcare services to support children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. You will develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver
evidence-based early interventions, support emotional wellbeing within schools and colleges, and contribute to improving access to mental health support across Barking & Dagenham. Successful candidates will undertake the nationally recognised Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) training programme alongside their employment within NELFT's Mental Health Support Team service., Deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Work in partnership with schools, children, young people and families to support the self-management of presenting emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties. Undertake assessments, contribute to formulations and develop collaborative intervention plans under appropriate supervision. Deliver guided self-help and other evidence-based interventions on both an individual and group basis. Support education staff to identify, understand and respond to mental health and wellbeing needs within their settings. Promote emotional wellbeing and improve access to mental health support across educational settings. Liaise effectively with health, education, social care and voluntary sector partners to support integrated care and effective pathways. Identify and appropriately escalate concerns where children and young people require more specialist mental health
intervention. Maintain accurate clinical records, outcome measures and activity data in line with Trust policies and professional standards. Participate fully in the Education Mental Health Practitioner training programme and associated supervision requirements.
