Full Job Description

Shropshire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join theTrading Standards and Parking Enforcement team as a Trading Standards apprentice.This is an exciting career opportunity to learn what it takes to be a Trading StandardsOfficer whilst undertaking a professional apprenticeship aimed at creating a clearpathway into the profession.The post holder will undertake the Level 6 Trading Standards ProfessionalApprenticeship (equivalent to degree level) which has been updated to include materialon the upcoming changes to tobacco and vapes legislation.Post holders will be required to participate in a range of compliance and targeted relatedintervention work, undertake enforcement enquiries and investigations into breaches ofa wide range of regulatory and consumer protection legislation and activities includingtackling rogue traders, enforcing the provisions for age restricted products, the newtobacco and vapes legislation and the safety of consumer products.You will be supported through a structured training programme with a talented andexperienced team around you, which will help you to obtain a professional qualification

The successful candidate will be a confident and determined individual who is wantingto start a new career in a challenging yet rewarding role requiring extensive on the jobstudy and learning. You will be able to demonstrate you have the necessary drive andcommitment to fulfil the requirements of the apprenticeship and the skills to be asuccessful enforcement officer and investigator.Completing the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship, you'll need agood standard of general education, and the aptitude and commitment towardsstudying. You'll need the ability and desire to learn, and the capacity to understand andinterpret complex legislation. Having higher level qualifications will stand you in goodstead here, but it's not essential and we're open in terms of where you may have gainedyour experience.You'll also need first class communication and customer service skills, high attention todetail, and great organisational skills. We also think you'll have perseverance, patience,the awareness to quickly read situations, and the ability to remain calm in sometimesdifficult circumstances.It is essential that you can work both independently and as part of a team in order tosuccessfully contribute towards a wide range of operational objectives and team plans.The post holder will be required to travel (within and out of county). This will involve theuse of council vehicles as well as your own means of transportation; hence, a drivinglicence is essential.We know we're asking a lot, but in return we think we have a lot to offer.
