Full Job Description
Barts Health Maternity department is looking to recruit enthusiastic individuals to join our Maternity Team as a tobacco dependence advisor. The successful candidates will support Barts Health to provide smoking cessation support for pregnant people receiving care from Newham, Whipps Cross and the Royal London maternity units. This post has been established to support the Smoke Free Pregnancy Programme at Barts Health NHS Trust and adopts a systems-based approach to enhance how smoking in pregnancy is addressed. It aims to: Improve the identification and support of pregnant women who smoke. Enable maternity teams to deliver more effective, evidence-based smoking cessation interventions. Contribute to better maternal and neonatal outcomes by reducing smoking-related risks. If you are interested in this role, we look forward to hearing from you. Main duties of the job The postholder will work with the Consultant Midwife (Public Health), the Smoking Cessation midwife, Saving Babies Lives Lead midwife and other Antenatal clinic, Specialist and Community midwifery team members in providing individualised smoking cessation support for pregnant women/people within the Smoke-Free Pregnancy Service at Barts Health. Liaise closely with local stop smoking services, provide intermediate smoking cessation support throughout pregnancy using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). Work with minimal indirect supervision operating within the assessed level of competence and being accountable for all aspects of own work. - GCSE level English and Mathematics or equivalent
- NVQ level 3/4 or equivalent health related studies OR substantial successful experience delivering stop smoking interventions/support Desirable
- Smoking cessation Advisor Intermediate level qualification (NCSCT)
- National Incentive scheme training and use of national NSPIS database Experience Essential
- Experience as a tobacco dependence advisor or similar behavioural change role
- Experience of working with clients who want to give up smoking or similar role
- Experience of working in an environment that provides help, support, and/or counselling. Desirable
- Experience of providing smoking cessation support
- A record of working with pregnant women.
- Experience of developing and delivering successful health promotion interventions, A good level of understanding of evidence-based practice in relation to smoking cessation, the consequences of smoking and benefits to quitting.
- An understanding of human behaviour in relation to making healthy lifestyle changes and decisions
- The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with professionals/individuals from a variety of different professional backgrounds
- Evidence of continual personal and professional development Desirable
- Smoking cessation NCSCT trained.

- A basic understanding of audit and evaluation Person Specification Qualifications Essential
