Full Job Description

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is to benefit from being on the national New Hospital Programme, with the aim of replacing the West Suffolk Hospital with a brand-new healthcare facility by 2030.

The Tobacco Dependence Adviser will report to the Tobacco Dependence Lead and be responsible for supporting implementation of the 'Smokefree Generation' ambitions. The ambition makes the commitment that smoking prevalence in the population is reduced to less than 5% by 2030.

You will work with the Tobacco Dependence Lead and Tobacco Dependence Team to support delivery of the programme both in the hospital and across the community in line with the national requirements., providing and supporting direct delivery of stop smoking treatment, support, and advice in line with the National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) guidance.

confidently advising clinicians, patients and visitors in the treatment of tobacco dependence

building strong and proactive relationships with the clinical community and ward teams, and wider trust colleagues alongside the tobacco dependence lead.

design and implement behavioural change programmes that support smoking cessation, promotion of healthy lifestyles and reduction of inequalities for patients and staff in the trust and the community.

promote and implement tobacco dependence treatment and health promotion activities across the trust.

organising and/or delivering relevant training and education (for example, Very Brief Advice (VBA) and Making Every Contact Count (MECC)) alongside the tobacco dependence lead, local authority commissioned services or other colleagues.

supporting delivery of QI projects related to tobacco dependence, treatment and support.

ensuring effective recording in patient records, assessments, audits and other assurance and compliance documentation

supporting administrative tasks for the tobacco dependence and smokefree generation programmes and tobacco dependence lead.
