As a key member of the Coagulation Laboratory based at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and part of South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) l the post holder will work closely with the Coagulation Laboratory Management team to provide operational, scientific, financial and workforce leadership for the Thrombosis (inherited and acquired thrombophilia.
Coagulation Laboratory provides the Yorkshire and Humber Specialist service for Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) laboratory management. The role has direct responsibility for the day-to-day delivery and quality of the local Thrombosis and TTP service, including management of staff, equipment, estates, reagents and analytical performance. The post holder will support service continuity by deputising for the Coagulation Laboratory Manager if required and will contribute to the strategic development and delivery of the wider SYB Pathology Blood Sciences service., The Thrombosis Lead Scientist is the senior subject matter expert for the local Thrombosis and TTP laboratory service, providing expert scientific, operational and professional leadership. Reporting to the Coagulation Laboratory Manager, the post holder has responsibility for day-to-day management, quality and governance of the Thrombosis and TTP analytical service, ensuring safe, timely and clinically effective delivery in line with national standards and best practice.
The role involves leading service development and change, overseeing analytical performance, quality management systems, accreditation and regulatory compliance. Working collaboratively with laboratory, clinical and network leads, the post holder will contribute to strategic planning, service evaluation, audit, research and business development, represent the service at local, regional and national forums, and provide expert advice on complex analytical and interpretive issues to support high-quality patient care.
The post holder will work alongside equivalent Scientific Leads, the Coagulation Laboratory Manager, Blood Sciences Discipline Leads, the Haemophilia Centre Director, TTP Clinical Lead, other Clinical Leads and the Blood Sciences Deputy Clinical Director to contribute to the development and delivery of the SYBP strategy.

Coagulation -The Coagulation laboratories at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, forms a major part of the Coagulation service within the SYBP, with a reputation both nationally and internationally for it's quality service, repertoire of tests performed and experience both laboratory-based and clinical. It provides diagnostic and support services to inpatients, outpatients and General Practitioner patients in Sheffield and surrounding areas, and specialist services to national users.
