Full Job Description
We are looking for a Band 4 Therapies Assistant Practitioner to join the Surgical Emergency (SEU) Team. The SEU is a fast-paced and varied environment caring for patients with complex surgical needs. The service spans emergency triage, three acute inpatient wards and ambulatory care at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The post-holder will work across professional boundaries as part of both the SEU and Therapies teams. Working independently under the supervision of registered practitioners, the successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality care. This includes assisting Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Registered Nurses with patient assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, enabling timely and safe, effective discharge planning. Our Therapies and SEU teams are committed to continuous service improvement and high standards of patient care. We provide regular supervision and actively encourage ongoing professional development. The role also offers opportunities to
contribute to service development initiatives, promote understanding of rehabilitation principles within the wider team, and take part in projects aimed at improving patient outcomes and enhancing therapy provision., As a member of the Therapies team, you will support registered Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, as well as Registered Nurses to deliver a high standard of rehabilitation and therapeutic care within a safe and supportive environment.
You will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team to develop and maintain therapy services for patients, contributing to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward and clinical area. The role involves implementing delegated treatment programmes, promoting patient independence, and supporting timely and safe discharge planning, working closely with the SEU discharge coordinator and discharge liaison nurse.
You will be able to complete and maintain patient records whilst maintaining confidentiality.
You will maintain the dignity and privacy of all patients and respect their right to confidentiality at all times.
You will be required to complete and maintain role-specific clinical competencies, reviewing progress regularly with the Therapy Lead and through the appraisal process. You must understand your level of responsibility, scope of practice and accountability in relation to registered therapists, and adhere to all organisational policies and professional standards.
