Full Job Description

As a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Theatre team at the James Paget University Hospital.

This is an exciting time to join the service, with the development of two elective orthopaedic hub theatres and the introduction of robotic surgery. You will be part of a forward-thinking team committed to delivering safe, effective care and continuous improvement.

The role requires adaptability and a willingness to develop skills across a range of clinical specialities. You will be supported to develop expertise in at least one area while maintaining flexibility to work across other specialities in line with service needs.

The department comprises 13 theatres delivering a wide range of services including General Surgery, Colorectal, Breast, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Trauma, Orthopaedics, and Maternity, alongside satellite anaesthetic services.

Applicants must be a Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).

We are committed to supporting your professional development through a structured Band 5 pathway, with opportunities to develop extended roles, including Surgical First Assist. Newly qualified practitioners are encouraged to apply and will be supported through a comprehensive preceptorship programme., You will work as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the perioperative pathway.

You will work effectively both independently and as part of a team, in line with Trust policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, demonstrating flexibility to meet service needs.

You will communicate clearly with the multidisciplinary team and act as a positive role model, supporting students and visitors while upholding the Trust's values and behaviours. You will also be supported in developing your skills within the role.

We want to attract the best and brightest people to work with us and that means we will look after you from the moment you apply for a role at the Trust and throughout your career with us. Our staff are central to everything we do, and we believe that investing in you is crucial if we want to enable you to reach your full potential.
