Full Job Description

As a Senior Theatre Practitioner - Anaesthetics, you'll play a key role in delivering safe, responsive and patient-centred perioperative care, supporting complex procedures across specialties including cardiac, neuro, thoracic, vascular, spine, plastics, breast reconstruction, ENT, gastrointestinal and maxillofacial surgery. We are seeking an experienced practitioner with broad exposure to complex case mixes and strong anaesthetic expertise. A sedation certificate would be advantageous. Our theatres operate Monday to Saturday, with a 7-day on-call service. On-call commitments average 8-10 shifts per month, although this may vary depending on service activity and leave requirements. Candidates must be able to attend the hospital within one hour when on call, or make suitable arrangements to ensure this requirement is met. With opportunities to work alongside leading consultants and develop specialist skills in a highly regarded clinical environment, this role offers excellent scope for professional growth and career progression. What you'll do:

  • Deliver consistently high-quality, evidence-based anaesthetic care, ensuring every patient receives safe, effective and compassionate support throughout their perioperative journey
  • Lead on the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of all aspects of anaesthetic and perioperative care, using your senior expertise to anticipate patient needs and respond confidently to changing clinical situations
  • Prepare patients for anaesthetic and operative procedures, providing skilled assistance to the anaesthetist and wider surgical team while ensuring smooth, efficient theatre workflows
  • Contribute fully as a senior member of the theatre team, sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues and promoting a positive, cohesive team culture that drives continuous improvement

Significant number of years dedicated anaesthetics experience
  • Current NMC or HCPC registration
  • Recognised Anaesthetics Course/Qualification
  • Strong commitment to patient and staff safety, consistently upholding best practice and safe-working principles
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team
