Temporary Teacher of Physics and GSCE Maths (0.6 FTE)

We are seeking to appoint a Temporary Teacher of Physics and GCSE Maths on a part-time (0.6 FTE) temporary basis to commence as soon as possible.

The role is paid on the Teacher Scale, currently £33,456 - £51,714 per annum FTE / £20,073 - £31,028 per annum pro-rata.

The Physics subject area currently teaches the AQA GCE specification, with approximately 80 students in each year group. The Department has a large laboratory and adjacent theory room with interactive whiteboard facilities and a rooftop observatory. Students have the opportunity to extend their work outside class through trips and visits.

In addition, the Department contributes to a number of 14-19 science initiatives, has strong links with Manchester University (including providing Initial Teacher Training placements for many years), Perimeter Institute Ontario, CERN, The Ogden Trust, York and Lancaster University and also supports the ethos of the College by involvement in charity work.

The subject area works closely with the other sciences and Maths and wider college teams.

The enthusiastic and well-qualified team feel that active learning, especially practical work plays a key role in the teaching and learning strategies within the Department and this is supported by a highly qualified technician. The area is well resourced and prides itself both on the quality of its teaching and the support it gives to students. The staff frequently review teaching and learning strategies, to provide the opportunity for students to maximise their potential and enjoy the subject.

The Mathematics subject area consists of seven specialist Mathematics teachers, who form a strong and dedicated team. The Department is keen to embrace new initiatives, share ideas and support each other in improving teaching and learning. Studying A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics together is a very popular option with healthy numbers and truly delightful students. We are determined that every student achieves their full potential through a rigorous programme of study, support and challenge.

We take time to work collaboratively, plan lessons jointly and share good practice through observation of each other's lessons. We are currently developing our work with other departments in a range of whole-college initiatives to create inspiring and life-changing learning experiences for our students.
