Full Job Description
We are seeking to appoint a Temporary Teacher of Maths on a part-time (0.6 - 0.8 FTE) temporary basis to commence in August 2026.
The role is paid on the Teacher Scale, currently £33,456 - £51,714 per annum FTE.
The Mathematics subject area consists of seven specialist Mathematics teachers, who form a strong and dedicated team. The Department is keen to embrace new initiatives, share ideas and support each other in improving teaching and learning. Studying A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics together is a very popular option with healthy numbers and truly delightful students. We are determined that every student achieves their full potential through a rigorous programme of study, support and challenge.
The Department is housed in a modern suite of rooms in the Mary Kelly building and all rooms are fully resourced, equipped and linked to the College network with interactive whiteboards. The Department has worked hard to increase innovation in the use of ILT resources in lessons and are keen to embrace new ideas.
Currently in Lower Sixth there are nine Maths sets (218 students) and two Further Maths sets (27 students). In Upper Sixth there are eight Maths sets (189 students) and one Further Maths set (17 students). At GCSE level there are six sets (131 students) enrolled at present. We have also introduced Core Maths, which has 51 students in three sets.
As a team we are continually striving to move forward in all areas of Mathematics and Mathematics' education. High quality questioning, differentiation and collaboration are on the agenda as is truly personalised learning. We have strong links with universities, local schools and regularly work with initial trainee, PGCE and ECT students.
The Department has developed key links with partner schools in the local area, offering a student mentoring programme with secondary schools, which has increased the numbers and enthusiasm of students to undertake Maths at Holy Cross.
We take time to work collaboratively, plan lessons jointly and share good practice through observation of each other's lessons. We are currently developing our work with other departments in a range of whole-college initiatives to create inspiring and life-changing learning experiences for our students.
