Our work is governed by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and is driven by a strong commitment to animal welfare and scientific excellence. We are looking for a four Technician (Grade 4) to support the delivery of high-quality animal care and technical services within our facilities. Alternatively, we will consider those with no previous experience or professional qualification to be underfilled to a Grade 3 Technician whilst training takes place, with appropriate amendment to responsibilities and duties. The postholder will contribute to the day-to-day care and monitoring of laboratory animals, ensuring that welfare standards and regulatory requirements are consistently met. The role requires a higher level of responsibility, including the ability to work independently, organise workloads, and support junior staff. You will be expected to communicate effectively with colleagues and researchers, apply attention to detail in all aspects of the role, and demonstrate sound judgement in assessing animal welfare. The postholder will normally be based at a single facility but may be required to work across other BMS facilities as operational needs require. Training will be provided where required, including support to obtain or maintain a Home Office Personal Licence. The role includes opportunities for continuing professional development. The position involves a combination of independent and team-based working and requires a proactive and responsible approach to workload management.
