Technician - Traffic & Safety Team An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Traffic & Safety Team at Leicestershire County Council. We currently have several vacancies and are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in developing a career in road safety and making a positive difference to local communities. In this role, you'll help improve the safety of roads, walking routes and cycling facilities across Leicestershire, supporting projects that benefit people living, working and travelling throughout the county. The role does not meet the minimum salary requirements for sponsorship; therefore, applicants must already have the right to work in the UK in order to apply, Working as part of a friendly and supportive team, you'll gain experience across a wide range of areas including traffic management, road safety engineering, road safety education, cycling training (Bikeability), and School Crossing Patrol services. No previous highways experience is required, as full training and development will be provided. As a Technician, you'll support the design and delivery of projects that make journeys safer and more accessible for everyone. This includes developing improvements such as new road signs and markings, speed management measures, parking restrictions, traffic calming schemes, casualty reduction initiatives, and projects that encourage walking and cycling. You will also gain experience in the legal processes that support the highway network, including Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), which are the legal orders used to introduce measures such as speed limits, yellow lines, parking controls, one-way streets and other traffic restrictions. The role combines office-based and site-based work. You'll visit locations across Leicestershire to investigate concerns, assess road safety issues and help identify practical solutions. You'll also communicate regularly with residents, businesses, Councillors and partner organisations, responding to enquiries and providing advice on local transport and road safety matters. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, as you'll be managing a varied workload and working with colleagues across different service areas. You will also prepare reports and correspondence for both technical and non-technical audiences. Knowledge of highways legislation, design standards and Department for Transport guidance would be beneficial but is not essential. Full training will be provided to help you develop the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in the role. This position would suit graduates, college leavers, career changers, or individuals with experience in customer service, project delivery, transport, engineering, public services or other customer-focused environments who are looking to build a rewarding and varied career helping to improve road safety and local communities. This may include qualifications such as the Level 3 NVQ in Transport Planning and professional road safety engineering courses accredited by RoSPA.

To apply for this post, you must have experience of:

• Liaising with customers / clients using a variety of methods
• Experience of accurately capturing, storing and retrieving information to meet customer and organisational and needs.
• Problem investigation and assessment
• Engagement with customers, including attending and producing materials for meetings and exhibitions
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work
• Good IT skills, including the ability to learn the use of specific highways software such as Confirm.
