The School of Applied Sciences specialises in research and education in the fields of Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Ecology and Conservation, Geography, and Environment. This diversity provides a rich environment to tackle global problems using multidisciplinary approaches.


We are recruiting a Technical Team Manager to their Bio-Resources unit to oversee operations and compliance of this specialist animal unit. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small but established team, where you will ensure the safe and efficient day to day running of the facility, delivery of staff and student training, and act as the Home Office Liaison Contact, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to operate independently under the guidance of the Senior Technical Manager and ensure the continued development of the team and facility. In order to be successful in this role you should have:



  • An IAT level 2 Diploma and IAT accredited NACWO status

  • Practical knowledge and experience of specific techniques, skills and material related to the subject area

  • Knowledge of current health and safety legislation related to the relevant subject area

  • Experience of planning and progressing work activities and managing and prioritising workloads, using initiative and independent judgement


The university provides both in-house and external training on a range of skills and topics, and we encourage the ongoing development of all staff members and the University is a signatory of the Technicians Commitment. This role benefits from 30 days annual leave (from Sept), in addition to all bank holidays, and an additional closure period between Christmas and New year.
