Full Job Description

We are seeking a Technical Manager for one of our key clients to provide technical solutions and support across multiple projects and tenders, deliver complex technical presentations, and offer construction advice. This role is primarily focused on developing rail engineering projects with established clients and assisting in expanding both the team and the firm's business activities. Day-to-day of the role:

  • Design Management:
  • + Lead the technical design on the delivery of civil and structural engineering design services, including calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports for various project phases. + Conduct site visits and assess solutions in line with scope and design requirements. + Prepare high-quality technical reports and maintain consistency of technical outputs. + Produce technical briefs, sketches, and designs to facilitate the production of construction and fabrication drawings. + Develop Risk Assessments and construction methodologies. + Perform interim inspections and issue completion certificates.
  • Project Management:
  • + Produce specifications and estimates. + Manage site operations, including administration of resources and coordination of works. + Conduct site inspections and manage commercial aspects such as contracts, payments, and final accounts.
  • Business Strategy:
  • + Identify new clients and additional work from existing clients. + Promote best practices and review and approve tenders, bids, and quotations. + Liaise with external bodies, customers, and suppliers to address quality issues.
  • Communication:
  • + Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and practices. + Manage departmental activities, including staff recruitment, training, and development. + Develop and implement quality management strategies and plans.
  • Health & Safety:
  • + Implement and review best practice policies and procedures concerning health and safety.

  • Proven problem-solving skills with a methodical and cost-effective approach.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to lead design teams and communicate effectively.
  • Extensive knowledge of CDM and health and safety regulations.
  • Experience in technical delivery of civil projects and understanding of engineering assurance processes like GRIP, PACE, Pathways.
  • Familiarity with TfL standards and awareness of Thames Water Standards.
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related construction qualification with significant experience in the field.
  • Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the Rail / Civil Engineering Industry.
  • Current full driving licence.
