Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Digital Live Service Team as a IT Apprentice. We have a very successful programme, our latest intake have all passed with distinctions. As a IT Apprentice you will support 1st line Helpdesk and the wider Desktop Support function. This role is ideal for someone developing a career in IT while working towards a Level 3 qualification. The post holder will play an important part in helping colleagues access reliable, secure IT services, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and that users receive a positive and professional support experience.
Our digital team provides frontline support for IT queries across the authority, responding to issues raised by telephone, email and the self-service portal. Their work helps staff stay connected, productive and secure, which in turn supports the delivery of council services to residents across the borough.
The post holder will help diagnose and resolve IT issues, respond to Helpdesk requests, support users with day-to-day ICT queries, and contribute to small-scale IT projects. They will be expected to meet agreed service standards, build their technical knowledge throughout the apprenticeship, and develop the skills needed to provide effective, customer-focused IT support across the organisation.
The role calls for strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm for IT, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently when required.
The successful candidate will have GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent), a keen interest in IT, basic digital skills, and the ability to communicate clearly, follow instructions and deliver a high standard of customer service. An understanding of Office 365, problem-solving skills and previous IT study would be beneficial, but these can be developed further through the apprenticeship and on-the-job training.

Require a reasonable adjustment? If you feel a reasonable adjustment will provide additional support in both the recruitment process and within the workplace, please indicate this to the hiring manager on your application. Declaring a reasonable adjustment will not subject you to any form of discrimination when determining which applicants are successful for interview and employment with us.
Our Carbon Net-Zero 2030 Action Plan
In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council's operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government's net zero target of 2050.
We recognise the significant role we can play in the borough in helping to limit climate change, but we can't do this alone; we need help from all our residents, businesses, voluntary and community sectors and of course all those who apply and work for us. Together we can make North Tyneside a sustainable place to live and work for everyone in the borough.
