Full Job Description
We're seeking an experienced highways or transport professional to lead our Highways Development Implementation Team and oversee the delivery of major developer-funded highway infrastructure across Derbyshire.
Managing a team of specialist officers, you'll work with developers, contractors, planning authorities and elected members to ensure new roads, junction improvements and transport infrastructure are delivered to a high standard and successfully incorporated into Derbyshire's highway network.
This is a leadership role with plenty of variety. One day you could be guiding complex highway agreements and infrastructure projects, and the next supporting your team through technical challenges, negotiating with developers or helping to unlock strategic development opportunities.
You'll have responsibility for overseeing the delivery and adoption of highway works, ensuring schemes meet the required technical, legal and safety standards while maintaining a strong focus on customer service and partnership working. The role offers the opportunity to work on projects that have a visible and lasting impact on communities across the county.
Significant experience in highways, civil engineering, transport development management or a related discipline.
Proven leadership experience and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
Strong knowledge of highway infrastructure delivery and development-related agreements.
Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
Sound technical judgement and a solutions-focused approach.
Professional membership or chartered status, or a commitment to achieving it.
The opportunity to lead the delivery of major transport and highway infrastructure projects across Derbyshire.
A role with genuine visibility and impact, helping to shape and support communities for years to come.
A skilled, experienced and supportive team environment.
Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
Generous local government pension scheme.
A comprehensive benefits package including annual leave, professional development opportunities, and employee wellbeing support.
If you'd like to lead a skilled and supportive team while helping deliver the infrastructure needed for Derbyshire's future growth, we'd love to hear from you!
