Cheshire West and Chester Council is a place where everyone can Thrive - through our core values of Teamwork, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Value for Money and Empowerment.

We are looking for a highly motivated, reflective, and creative professional to provide leadership and direction to the Children with Disabilities Team based at The Portal, Ellesmere Port. You will be a strong team player with great communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively. A professional social work qualification is essential for this post.

The team operates on a hybrid working arrangement supporting work-life balance through a flexible approach of working from home and in our council offices in Ellesmere Port. We work with children and their families who have complex health needs and disabilities who live across the Cheshire West and Chester borough, so some travelling will be required within the post.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Disabled Children and Young People's service, demonstrating their commitment to leading a team, whilst supporting young people and their families.

Our Children's Social Care workforce is passionate and committed to improving outcomes for Children in our authority. We have embedded 'Our Ways of Working' with our service and multi-agency partners, enabling improved collaboration and one common approach to practice utilising Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Informed Practice. Social workers are encouraged to work creatively with children and their families with planning and decision-making in order to achieve positive outcomes.

Our services to children with disabilities are supported by a variety of commissioned services enabling children to remain at home and supporting their transition to adulthood, including our own short-break residential home, Pinewood, which was inspected in February 2024 and graded as Outstanding for the 3rd year running.

We have a hybrid working arrangement in place across the service with social workers being able to work flexibly between home and office.

As a local authority, we have developed an inspirational social work offer to support and develop our valued workforce, including:

  • High quality progression and developmental opportunities; including aspiring and Practice Educator programmes.
  • Free parking at all of our office locations.
  • Work-life balance, flexible and remote working arrangements available, including a smart mobile phone for all employees.
  • Competitive working rewards.
  • High quality supervision.
  • Strong reflective practice framework.

If you would like an informal discussion about this post, please contact Senior Manager, Sarah Banks.

No candidate will meet every single requirement - if your experience looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you!

Cheshire West and Chester Council are committed to equality and diversity in employment.

Cheshire West and Chester Council have adopted a Local Living Wage for our employees which means that all employees will receive a minimum of £12.60 per hour for all contracted hours.
