Summary
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn't exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.
The post is situated within the Liverpool School of Art & Design (soon to become the Liverpool School of Art & Creative Industries). You will be expected to make a broad contribution to architecture and urban design programmes within the school and have extensive experience in architectural practice and some experience of architectural education.
You will teach in professionally validated undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Architecture and must be a Registered / Chartered Architect with both architectural practice and higher education teaching experience who can demonstrate an ability to inspire, challenge and guide students in the field of Architectural Design. It is essential that you demonstrable the ability to drive advancements in the use of IT, CAD & AI within the subject area and teach design studios that embrace and advances such technologies.
Our programmes of study are balanced to address the creative and technical demands of the architectural profession. A broad educational experience is offered within which students can develop diverse rigorous and creative approaches to architectural design. Taught principally through a studio environment that is seamlessly underpinned and informed by lectures and workshops, the over-arching ambition of our programmes is to create graduates with artistic flair, who are technically skilled and grounded in the demands of the professional role of the architect.
The learning and teaching environment is progressively informed by research in pedagogy in the creative field. While teaching the curriculum, the programme also develops less tangible skills in students, such as communication, presentation and self-motivation; a key ambition is to create independent thinkers, adept at resolving problems with creativity and originality.
The city of Liverpool is a vibrant place for students to study and supports our programmes as a hub for research and projects. There are opportunities for students to work with leading arts organisations and our programmes encourage collaborative, experimental and creative practice. Liverpool School of Art and Design has many links with artistic and cultural institutions both nationally and locally and collaborates regularly on projects and exhibitions.
The 2022 RIBA visiting panel commended the architecture staff for their collegiate approach to course delivery and strong commitment to the student experience. It also commended the school for its continuing civic engagement with the city region through strong links to its cultural institutions and the Architecture Programme's focus on urban design projects across a range of scales.
Informal enquiries may be made to Jamie Scott, Programme Leader j.
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.
This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.
If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.
The Liverpool School of Art and Design actively promotes diversity in its workforce. We welcome applications from all eligible applicants. However, we would like to encourage applicants from the Black, Asian, and other Minority Ethnic communities who are currently under-represented within this area of work. Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
