Full Job Description
Level 2 Teaching Assistants in our schools know that no two days and no two children are ever the same. Our pupils need exceptional adults who can support complex learning, emotional and behavioural needs in a safe and nurturing environment.
You will understand that our children need patience, consistency, flexibility and clear communication. You will be resilient, solution-focused and non-judgemental, adapting your approach to meet changing needs throughout the day.
Our Level 2 Teaching Assistants may be:
- Supporting teachers in the classroom.
- Working one-to-one with pupils or delivering small group interventions.
- Managing classroom resources and learning environments.
- Supporting educational visits and trips.
- Managing challenging behaviour and maintaining safety.
- Supporting practical learning activities, including science experiments.
- Creating engaging classroom displays.
- Recognising and celebrating achievement.
- Supporting therapeutic activities and helping pupils reflect on challenges and successes.
There is no requirement for a formal qualification to be considered for this role. However, experience of working with children or young people in education, care, youth work or similar settings is highly valued.
We can also offer apprenticeships, including Teaching Assistant Level 3 and Specialist Teaching Assistant Level 5 qualifications, for those looking to develop their careers.
We want our Teaching Assistants to play an active role in shaping school life, improving outcomes and advocating for every child. We welcome ideas, interests and passions that can help enrich the curriculum and wider school experience.
Compass Community puts children first through our therapeutic, innovative approach. Integrity, Courage and Care shape how we work. We listen deeply, challenge each other and fix what needs fixing, together.
Who We Are
Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many also have additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties. Many have experienced significant trauma, adverse childhood experiences and social care involvement.
The work we do is varied, rewarding and challenging. As a trauma and attachment-informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and ongoing support.
Our collaborative approach places the child at the centre of decision-making, ensuring education and therapy professionals, parents and carers, local authority teams and students work together to achieve positive outcomes.
Long-service awards of £200 after 2 years, £400 after 5 years and £600 after 10 years, plus potential recognition awards of up to £500 for outstanding practice.
- Salary sacrifice schemes, including childcare, technology and Cycle to Work benefits.
- Regular therapeutic and supportive supervision.
- MediCash healthcare cashback for dental, optical, physiotherapy and other treatments.
We regularly review applications and reserve the right to close vacancies early if suitable candidates are identified.
Safeguarding
Compass Community Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain an Enhanced DBS Check, including Regulated Activity clearance where appropriate, and complete relevant safeguarding and social media screening checks.
All school-based staff are responsible for promoting the welfare and safety of children and must work in line with the school's Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy at all times.
