Full Job Description

We are seeking a caring, dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school from September 2026. This full-time role will involve working within a Year 1 classroom, providing 1:1 support for a pupil with mild Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the child access learning, develop independence, and thrive socially and emotionally within the classroom environment.,

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with autism.
  • Assist the child in accessing the curriculum and completing classroom activities.
  • Support the pupil's social and emotional development, helping them build positive relationships with their peers.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies and interventions that meet the child's individual needs.
  • Encourage confidence, independence and engagement in learning.
  • Support the wider classroom environment when appropriate.

    Has experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within a school setting.
  • Has an understanding of autism and the strategies that support pupils with additional needs.
  • Is patient, nurturing and able to build positive relationships with children.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Is committed to supporting every child to achieve their full potential.
