Full Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting children's emotional wellbeing as much as their academic progress? Do you believe that therapeutic care and mental health support are essential to unlocking a child's potential? If so, we'd love to welcome you to our team. Our Primary Pupil Referral Unit provides a safe, nurturing environment for children aged 5-11 who have faced challenges in mainstream education due to social, emotional or behavioural needs. We place mental health and therapeutic support at the heart of everything we do. We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to work closely with pupils, staff and therapeutic professionals. You'll help deliver trauma-informed care, support emotional regulation and foster trusting relationships that allow children to re-engage with learning. Key responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support with a focus on emotional wellbeing
  • Assist in the delivery of therapeutic interventions and personalised learning plans
  • Support pupils in developing self-awareness, resilience and positive behaviour
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and families to create holistic support strategies
  • Promote a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

Experience working with children with SEMH needs or in therapeutic settings (desirable)
  • A trauma-informed, empathetic approach to behaviour and communication
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
  • Relevant qualifications or willingness to undertake training in therapeutic approaches

This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands, or final warnings, as well as convictions. The County Council has a commitment to safeguarding service users in our care.
  • Equality & Diversity: We are committed to equality of opportunity for all citizens and celebrates the diversity of all its residents.
