Northumberland County Council is recruiting for an enthusiastic, well-motivated teaching and learning assistant. The core role will be working with children, their families, teaching staff and the Education Welfare Service to deliver an appropriate education to children who cannot attend school due to their health needs. The postholder will be based at the Northumberland Education Engagement Hub where the teaching for children with health needs takes place, and will be a member of the Engagement Teaching team.


The Education Engagement Hub is a short term service that delivers teaching to pupils until they are well enough to return to their mainstream school or to another educational setting. You would be instrumental in supporting the pupils in their lessons, promoting good attendance and planning a smooth and successful transition back to full time education.


You will be working with pupils either on a one to one or small group basis either at the teaching venue, at home or online. Your support will be directed by the Engagement Teaching team staff.


We deliver teaching in English, Maths, Science and PSHE up to and including Year 11 pupils. Younger pupils follow a more topic based primary curriculum.


You should have a good general standard of education and experience of working in an education or social care setting. The successful applicant will be expected to work term time only.
