Full Job Description

We are seeking a skilled, patient and adaptable Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support pupils who are finding it difficult to access the full mainstream curriculum. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to pupils who need a more personalised approach to learning. Working closely with the SENCO, teaching staff and pastoral team, you will lead planned learning activities for small groups and individual pupils, helping them develop the confidence, skills and independence needed to succeed. The role will include working within our internal inclusion rooms, providing a calm, structured and supportive environment for pupils who may be experiencing difficulties with learning, emotional regulation, behaviour or engagement. You will combine clear expectations with warm, consistent relationships, helping pupils overcome barriers and supporting their successful participation in mainstream lessons wherever appropriate.

  • Hold HLTA status or an appropriate equivalent qualification or experience, as set out in the person specification.
  • Have experience of supporting pupils with SEND, including social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Be confident leading learning with small groups and adapting activities to meet differing needs.
  • Be able to work effectively with pupils in internal inclusion rooms, maintaining purposeful learning and clear routines.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity, patience and resilience when supporting pupils who may be anxious, dysregulated or reluctant to engage. Use positive relationships and effective de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation and readiness to learn.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan support, monitor progress and contribute to reintegration into mainstream lessons.
  • Maintain high aspirations for every pupil and a strong commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
  • We are looking for someone who recognises pupils' strengths, understands that progress can take different forms, and remains committed to helping every young person experience success.
