We are looking for individuals who are interested in special educational needs and are looking to build knowledge and understanding whilst in employment.
We are able to offer a unique experience to earn whilst you learn and gain recognised qualifications in special educational needs. This post would suit a candidate who is starting their career, looking to change career, or already working with children and looking to gain new qualifications.
Successful candidates would complete a bespoke induction training programme to allow them to gain a foundation of knowledge on working in a school, supporting students with SEND, and the role of the Teaching Assistant. They would then spend up to 27 hours per week developing their skills in the classroom, and working with students with SEND, whilst receiving advice and support from an experienced teacher. They would also receive regular mentoring and coaching from experienced practitioners, professional studies sessions delivered by qualified leaders and SENDCos, and online training.
We are able to offer a range of apprenticeships through the Gloucestershire College, which are delivered at JMHS, leading to a recognised accredited qualification. As an employer, we would cover the full £7000 cost of your apprenticeship. Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeships can progress to a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant Fast Track, or Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship (for candidates holding a suitable degree). This provides an ideal training pathway for students looking to work as a cover supervisor, coach, tutor, or teacher.
We welcome visits from prospective applicants. If you would like to visit the school or discuss the position further, please email Hayley Newnes (Assistant Headteacher: SENDCo).
John Masefield was recognised by OFSTED in November 2022 as a good school. It is particularly noted for the quality of the curriculum, care, guidance and support, and leadership and management. We have excellent standards of pastoral care and superb enrichment opportunities. Staff have access to free on-site parking and the Local government Pension Scheme.
We will shortlist based on the criteria in the person specification. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a recruitment day which is likely to include a lesson observation and panel interview.
We are committed to equal opportunities and will make reasonable adjustments where required for candidates attending interview, and for appointed candidates.
