Full Job Description

An extremely rare and exciting opportunity has arisen at St Wilfrid's to join our team as a Teacher of Sociology. This is a permanent full-time post. We are seeking a colleague who can plan and deliver high-quality learning experiences for students and assess them accurately so that teaching is responsive and meets the needs of students. As a member of our Social Sciences team, you will be supported and challenged, so that as well as contributing to students' success and that of the School, you are personally developed in your career. The Social Sciences Team is made up of 2 dedicated experienced colleagues. Students can choose to study the following courses at Post-16: AQA A Level Sociology, AQA A Level Psychology and WJEC L3 BTEC Criminology. This post also brings the opportunity to teach some Criminology or Psychology too. St Wilfrid's Catholic High School & Sixth-Form College is a mixed voluntary Academy for 11-18 year olds, based in North Featherstone in West Yorkshire. There are currently 1,481 students in attendance. The school opened in 1963 and has a proud history. We were judged as Good by Ofsted in November 2021; we were also judged as Good by the Diocesan Section 48 Inspection in April 2024, with 7 out of 9 areas judged as Outstanding. We are proudly part of the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust, which comprises three Secondary Schools and twelve Primary Schools. We can offer:

  • A bespoke CPD programme based on career stage
  • Opportunities for Secondary collaboration within both the Trust and the Diocese
  • Motivated and hard-working students
  • A School which is ambitious and aspirational for all
  • Visits to the school are welcomed. Informal discussions about the role are welcomed too; please contact Debi Mitchell, HR Officer, by email: DeMitchell@st-wilfrids.bkcat.uk or telephone: Ext: 151. Our Open Day video can be viewed HERE; our Sixth-Form video can be viewed HERE; our GCSE Options Information can be viewed HERE; and our Subject Information can be viewed HERE. For more information and to apply online, please visit our website via the 'Apply' link. Closing date: 9.00am on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026. The Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust is wholly committed to ensuring children and young people are fully supported and safe. We are dedicated to the safeguarding of all children and young people whilst promoting their welfare and expect all staff and volunteers to share this responsibility. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS with barred list check and other appropriate checks including references. In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education Guidance (2024), online searches will be carried out on shortlisted candidates. This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Prior to interview, all shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a form for self-disclosure of their unprotected criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children.
