What the school offers its staff About Alsager School Alsager School is a high-achieving, inclusive 11-18 mixed comprehensive, with approximately 1,500 students on roll, including around 230 students in the Sixth Form. Science at Alsager School The Science Faculty currently comprises eleven full-time and five part-time teachers, supported by 2 full-time and 2 part-time; term-time technicians. The Faculty is led by a Curriculum Leader, who is assisted by two Deputy leaders. It is housed on three floors of the Andrews building in eleven well-equipped laboratories. Results at KS3, GCSE and AS/A2 are extremely good and science is a very popular subject at all levels. All labs have data projectors or interactive screens, linked to the school network, with access to the internet. There is a considerable emphasis on practical work where appropriate, with students working in small practical groups. At key stage 3 we have written an innovative scheme of work which is carefully sequenced and well resourced. At GCSE, we deliver trilogy combined science and the separate sciences (AQA). At A level we offer Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science (AQA). Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning and to make substantial use of the LRC. There are currently 2 groups of Chemistry, Physics and Biology in both years 12 and 13 and 1 group of Applied Scientists in each year. The successful candidate will be expected to teach all aspects of science, with the support of colleagues within the faculty. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their flair for the subject and their ability to motivate others, along with an exceptional commitment to the quality of teaching and learning of all students. These are exciting times in the development of the science curriculum and the person appointed will be expected to work co-operatively as part of a team in all aspects of developmental work, including contributing to schemes of work.
