The Department
Durham High School is looking to recruit a part time Mathematics teacher who is highly skilled and inspirational.
Our students cover the full age and ability range with many more able. Under the management of the Head of Department, you will build on past successes and play a vital role in maintaining the popularity and enjoyment of the subject across all Key Stages.
The Department will consist of two full-time teachers and two part-time teachers and occupies three dedicated classrooms, with interactive whiteboards, and a shared department workspace.
The Department has fostered a caring approach to teaching all students, being very mindful that some students find Mathematics extremely difficult. Equally however, the Department enjoys working with our gifted and talented students who strive for top grades and are aiming for highly competitive universities.
The Department broadly follows the National Curriculum, using a variety of resources. At the end of Key Stage 4 pupils' sit either iGCSE Edexcel Foundation Tier or Higher Tier. Additionally, pupils in the higher set sit AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics qualification.
At A Level, pupils also sit Edexcel Mathematics with the brightest often opting for Further Mathematics as an additional A Level. Each year, a number of our pupils are required to sit university entrance examinations such as BMAT, UKAT, MAT, STEP. In such cases, the Mathematics Department offers pupils individual support to maximise their chances of success.
