Full Job Description

For a September start we are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic person to play an active role in the College's large, thriving and highly successful Visual Arts Department. Working alongside a highly experienced team of subject specialists, the ideal candidate for this role will have a good level of knowledge and passion for Graphic Communication and Design.

This is an entry level opportunity and would ideally suit a graduate looking to take their first steps into teaching. The focus will be on establishing your classroom practice within our small-group teaching model. You will hold a teaching timetable and be supported in your professional growth with appropriate training, as well as being mentored by experienced members of our teaching team.

Students taking design courses at RIC work across a broad range of project areas such as brand identity, packaging design, marketing and advertising, design for print, web and app design, motion and environmental graphics, photography, animation and illustration, utilising traditional and digital techniques and processes to aid their idea development. Working on a variety of project briefs, students learn about the fundamental elements and principles of Graphic Design through a mixture of workshops, talks, visiting practitioners, class discussion and group work.

You will also offer workshops and extra-curricular clubs across the year groups. A genuine love of graphic and digital arts and a desire to inspire and stretch motivated students is essential. Flexibility and the ability to adapt and think fast will also be desired.

Graphic Communication: AQA Specification (GCSE & A level)

Click see our '35 Years of Visual Arts' and the Summer 2025 exhibition catalogue showcasing a selection of work from our students and staff.

Founded in 1984, Rochester Independent College in Kent is a day and boarding school offering a distinctive alternative to both traditional independent education and the highly selective grammar schools. RIC aims to give students an enjoyable and successful experience of schools in an international, creative and inclusive environment with small classes and high-quality teaching and pastoral care.

Classes are small. On average there are 8 students in each group. As well as a full secondary education from year 7 to sixth form, the College specialises in intensive one year A level and GCSE courses. We also have a good track record of excellent results on retake A level and GCSE courses for students aiming at competitive university courses including Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.

Rochester Independent College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
