Full Job Description

This post is part-time. (0.5 FTE) Full-time is 195 days and up to 1265 hours per academic year. At Queen Mary's College we understand the importance of recruiting skilled and committed staff to maintain excellence in all that we do. We are committed to high-quality, inclusive education and exceptional student support services, and pride ourselves on our welcoming, supportive and friendly environment. We never stand still and our best keeps getting better thanks to the dedication, enthusiasm and commitment of our team. Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary's College is an inclusive, vibrant and high-achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. The Foundation Learning Department provides person-centred programmes for students aged 16-22 with Education Health and Care Plans. Students have a wide range of needs including communication and language, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, sensory and physical needs, and medical conditions. The department is committed to supporting each student to achieve their full potential and progress successfully into adulthood. Our programmes are built around the Preparing for Adulthood themes:

  • Employability
  • Community Participation
  • Independent Living
  • Promoting Good Health
  • We offer a broad and engaging curriculum, combining accredited qualifications with enrichment activities that develop independence, confidence and life skills. These include enterprise, employability skills, healthy living, travel training, arts, sport and practical life skills. The Department has a strong reputation for its inclusive approach, high levels of student support and a focus on progression. Students leave us well-prepared for their next steps, including supported internships, employment, further education or independent living pathways. The Foundation Learning team is committed to innovative, student-centred approaches to teaching and learning. Staff work collaboratively to share expertise and continuously develop practice, with a strong emphasis on communication, independence and personalised learning. We make excellent use of College facilities, including specialist teaching spaces, a dedicated life skills kitchen, sports centre and wider campus opportunities. Students benefit from a rich and varied experience both within and beyond the classroom. Our priorities are to maintain and further develop high-quality provision, ensuring excellent outcomes and meaningful progression for all learners. We strive to provide an engaging, supportive and challenging learning environment that equips students with the skills, confidence and independence needed for adult life. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed SEND practitioner to join our experienced and dedicated team and contribute to our inclusive and supportive community. The person appointed will teach across the Foundation Learning provision. The intention is to create a timetable around the teaching strengths and expertise of the successful candidate. We are looking for someone with energy, creativity and a passion for supporting young people with SEND to achieve independence and success. All teaching staff are expected to be a Personal Tutor to a group of students they teach.
