Contract Type: Maternity Cover (Full Time, up to one year) Salary: Competitive Closing Date: Friday 26 June 2026 (noon) About the Role Luckley House School is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English to join our vibrant English department from September or October half-term 2026. This is a maternity cover position for up to one year. The successful candidate will teach English to pupils across Years 7 to 11, delivering a diverse and engaging curriculum tailored to individual needs. At Key Stage 3, we offer a curriculum of our own creation, and from Year 9, we deliver the Edexcel IGCSE specification. You will work collaboratively with a team of experienced and dedicated specialists to inspire and engage pupils, fostering confidence, resilience, and a love for English. The English department is housed in a fantastic building that also accommodates our school library and SEND team, providing a supportive and resource-rich environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in accordance with departmental schemes of work and policies.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to meet curricular objectives and the diverse needs of pupils.
  • Set and assess homework regularly to consolidate and extend learning.
  • Collaborate with SEN and support staff to maximise lesson effectiveness.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress, ensuring accurate and informative communication with parents.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment that promotes self-esteem and mutual respect.
  • Participate in departmental activities, including trips, clubs, and competitions, to enrich the learning experience.
  • Support the pastoral care of pupils as a Form Tutor, fostering their well-being and academic progress.
  • Requirements
  • A good honours degree in a relevant subject.
  • PGCE or equivalent qualification with QTS.
  • Proven experience teaching English up to and including GCSE level.
  • Strong subject knowledge and awareness of curriculum developments.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate pupils of all abilities.
  • Proficiency in using ICT to enhance teaching and learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Empathy with the Christian ethos of the school.
