Full Job Description

The Core RE department provides all Loreto students with the opportunity to learn about religion and through so doing, reflect upon their place in the world and their understanding of God. As a Core RE teacher, your unique role will be to develop students spiritually, ethically and theologically. We seek an engaging and supportive teacher who can foster positive relationships and encourage students to reflect on their own views and those of others. As a Catholic RE department, we are inclusive of students from all religious faiths and none, while rooting our work in Gospel Values and the values of Mary Ward, making the course accessible and inclusive. The successful candidate will join a large and dynamic team of colleagues, some of whom teach in other departments and various roles within the College.

Core RE has centrally-planned resources, created through collaborative team planning and is not an examined subject. Therefore, there are no formal assessments and no significant marking commitments.

Loreto Sixth Form College was awarded a second consecutive 'outstanding' rating by Ofsted in the December 2022 inspection. Ofsted noted 'students' behaviour is exemplary' and that 'students who study at Loreto do exceptionally well.' Ofsted also noted that 'leaders place a very high priority on staff mental health and wellbeing including workload. For example, staff can access counselling services, chaplaincy support, and the employee assistance programme.'

Loreto Sixth Form College is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All candidates and post holders including volunteers are subject to appropriate vetting procedures as outlined in Part 3 of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025. This includes an online search for shortlisted candidates, as well as a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check with barred list information and any other relevant checks with statutory bodies for successful candidates.

In order to comply with the religious ethos of the College, the Teacher of Core RE and Chaplaincy Support post holder must be Catholic - this is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010.
