Teacher of Art

We are looking for a well-qualified, experienced teacher of Art to join our experienced and passionate staff team. The successful applicant will have experience of teaching to GCSE and, ideally, A-Level; a specialism in Ceramics and/or Textiles, and moderation experience, could be advantageous. Our focus is firmly placed on academic excellence for all within a non-selective school. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be asked to show and talk about their own portfolio of artwork with the department. The anticipated start date for this position is 2 November 2026; however, we would welcome applications from candidates who are available to start in January 2027. Key Responsibilities

Qualifications and Attributes The ideal candidate will:
• have experience of teaching Art in a secondary setting
• have a good degree in Art or a related subject (with a supporting PGCE or QTS).
• have a specialism in Ceramics and/or Textiles
• have experience of exam moderation
• be able to deliver inspiring and exciting lessons across all key stages and to Oxbridge
• will demonstrate a willingness to participate in the wider life and Christian traditions of the school.
The Department Art is at the heart of life at Worksop College. Visitors to the school frequently comment on the impact of our students' artwork, with displays throughout the College creating a vibrant gallery of adventurous and challenging work. The department is comprised of three colleagues and is housed in generous and spacious dedicated facilities. It has an impressive track record of preparing students to progress to university and leading art schools to study related subjects. Students have a high regard for the subject and there have historically been strong levels of participation alongside excellent results in public examinations. The department offers an impressive range of subjects, with courses in Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Photography, 3D Design and Textile Design. The College follows the AQA examinations board. A strong super-curricular programme is a hallmark of the department and includes Art Clubs for all year groups, GCSE and A Level clinics, Clubs for Art Scholars, artist-led workshops, portfolio development support and the Sixth Form Elective Programme. There are opportunities for students to experiment with a wide range of materials, processes and contemporary practices beyond the classroom, and pupils are encouraged to enter internal and external national competitions and participate in collaborative creative projects across year groups. There are regular gallery and exhibition visits to support pupil understanding of art in context and provide first-hand experience of artworks. Recent trips include visits to universities, local galleries, exhibitions in Manchester, London and Nottingham, as well as cultural visits to Europe, enabling pupils to experience significant artworks, architecture and museums that broaden artistic and cultural awareness. The department organises visits to university art departments and degree shows, helping pupils to understand progression routes into art, design and the wider creative industries. There are opportunities to attend portfolio workshops and talks from visiting artists, designers and creative practitioners. The Art Scholars' Programme offers additional enrichment opportunities such as workshops, gallery visits, independent creative projects, external and internal competitions, and Scholars contribute to exhibitions and creative initiatives within the School. Scholars act as ambassadors for the subject, supporting younger students and helping to foster a vibrant creative culture across the department. Pastoral Care In addition to the academic role, every teacher is expected to play a full role in the life of the School outside the classroom and is attached to one of the boarding or day houses.
