Full Job Description
Spen Valley High School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:
1. We pride ourselves on being a trauma informed school, using a relational approach to behaviour management. Tell us why would you like to work specifically at Spen Valley High School and what experience/skills make you the best person for the role?
2. Have you ever been involved in an investigation relating to a safeguarding investigation?
3. Have you ever been involved in a disciplinary investigation?
4. Have you ever been the subject of a safeguarding investigation?
We pride ourselves on ethical leadership, integrity, and a culture that balances professional challenge with genuine care and support. We expect colleagues to work hard for our students, while recognising the importance of wellbeing, reflection, and support. Our trauma-informed, relational approach extends to both students and staff, creating a workplace where people feel safe to be themselves, to ask for help, and to thrive.
We offer high-quality CPD, including a bespoke professional development package tailored to individual needs and career aspirations. As part of the Red Kite Teaching Alliance, staff benefit from excellent training, collaboration, and shared expertise across some of Yorkshire's most successful schools. We actively encourage colleagues to contribute to the wider life of the school, to share their voice, and to bring forward fresh ideas that reflect and celebrate our diverse community.
This role would particularly suit an ECT and we are committed to supporting them at the start of their career. Please note ECTs will start on a temporary contract with permanent status being subject to completion of induction period.

- Teachers' Pension Scheme
- Employee assistance through Kirklees Employee Healthcare
- Staff supervision (counselling and support services)

- Kirklees Vivup lifestyle benefits package
We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace that recognises the diverse health and wellbeing needs of our staff. This includes being a menopause and endometriosis-friendly employer and signposting colleagues to wellbeing resources, such as men's mental health charities, to help everyone thrive.
To apply for this role, please provide:
+ - Your reasons for wanting to work at Spen Valley
