West Sussex Alternative Provision College (WSAPC) is an educational establishment based across the county on eight separate sites and two peripatetic services, providing education and intervention for pupils who are permanently excluded, at risk of exclusion or too ill to attend school. Our ethos is to provide FOCUS (Future, Opportunities:, Curriculum, Us, School) for our pupils to re-engage them in their learning and support re-integration to mainstream provision. West Sussex Alternative Provision College (WSAPC) is seeking an experienced, compassionate and highly skilled Teacher in Charge - Primary to lead our primary provision. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an outstanding practitioner who is passionate about inclusive education and making a difference for children with SEND, SEMH needs and barriers to mainstream education. You will have responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the Primary provision (EYFS, KS1 and KS2), working closely with the Head of School to deliver high-quality teaching, nurturing relationships and positive outcomes for vulnerable pupils. This role includes a teaching commitment of approximately 50%, enabling you to model exceptional practice while leading and supporting a dedicated staff team.,
- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of the Primary provision
- Lead on safeguarding as Designated Safeguarding Lead (Primary)
- Line manage, coach and support Primary staff to ensure high standards of teaching, behaviour and inclusion
- Develop and implement an ambitious, accessible and inclusive primary curriculum
- Lead high-quality SEND, SEMH and trauma-informed practice
- Oversee behaviour systems, attendance, engagement and pupil progress
- Use data effectively to inform provision, interventions and staff development
- Lead on admissions, transitions and reintegration for primary pupils
- Build strong partnerships with families, schools and multi-agency professionals
- Contribute to school improvement, quality assurance and wider WSAPC development
A qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS) with significant experience in SEND and alternative provision - An excellent classroom practitioner with strong inclusive teaching skills
- Experienced in supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
- Confident leading, motivating and developing staff
- Skilled in behaviour management, relational and trauma-informed approaches
- Data-informed, reflective and committed to continuous improvement
- Passionate about safeguarding, pupil wellbeing and positive outcomes
- A resilient, calm and solution-focused professional Leadership experience, curriculum responsibility and experience of reintegration work are highly desirable.
