About the role As a Teacher at The Corner School, you'll play a key role in our close-knit school community, supporting a small group of children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a really meaningful opportunity to make a difference every day, helping children overcome barriers to learning and build confidence in themselves. You'll plan, teach and assess learning for up to 6 children in your class, working closely with your class team, other teachers and the School Leadership Team. You'll also guide and support your class-based staff team, creating a calm, structured and nurturing environment where children can feel safe and ready to learn. This role offers the chance to develop your practice in trauma-aware teaching, wellbeing and positive education, with opportunities to take on subject leadership in the future. We'll look to you to
- Plan and deliver engaging, tailored lessons that reflect each child's needs, strengths and stage of learning
- Build strong, respectful relationships with children, supporting their wellbeing and progress
- Lead and support your class team (HLTA and Teaching Assistant), guiding their day-to-day work
- Work closely with colleagues across the school, including therapists and the leadership team
- Take a trauma-aware approach, supporting children to regulate, engage and build resilience
- In line with training (provided), use safe holds/restrictive physical intervention if a pupil is unsafe towards themselves or others, or causing damage to property
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, encouraging independence and self-control
- Keep clear and accurate records of children's progress and learning
- Work in partnership with families and other professionals to support each child holistically
- Contribute to wider school life, including trips, assemblies and events

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or working towards it for exceptional candidates)
- Experience teaching primary-aged children, including planning, assessment and target setting
- Experience teaching phonics and supporting early reading development
- Experience working with children with special educational needs and/or SEMH needs
- A strong understanding of the National Curriculum (KS1 and KS2)
- A good understanding of how children learn, including the impact of trauma and adverse experiences
- Confidence working with other professionals and communicating with families
- The ability to lead, support and develop others within a class team
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload effectively
- A reflective, open approach to learning and professional development
- A good level of IT skills to support teaching and record-keeping Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in a SEMH provision (eg special school, nurture room, ARP)
- Experience in a mainstream school or EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)
- Experience leading a subject area
- Experience working with vulnerable families or multi-agency teams
